The piriformis muscle is located deep in the gluteal (buttock) area and is commonly affected with back pain. It often causes a deep, dull ache in the buttock area.
A tight piriformis muscle can actually cause sciatica. The muscle runs very closely to the sciatic nerve and when it becomes tight and inflamed, it can irritate the sciatic nerve.
Our chiropractor Rebecca demonstrates one of the best stretches for the piriformis muscle.
