Chiropractic for families
Musculoskeletal conditions are very common and are a major cause of ill-health, pain and disability in the UK. It is estimated that nearly one-quarter of adults and around 12,000 children, are affected by chronic musculoskeletal problems; including well-recognised conditions such as arthritis, back pain, traumatic injuries and fractures that limit everyday activities. (Source: Department of Health, 2009)
The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders usually rises with age; however, they can and do affect people from all ages and lifestyles.
We also treat a number of younger children and babies for minor complaints.
Lifestyle plays an important part in the prevention of musculoskeletal conditions, staying active and healthy eating can help to reduce the effects of many of the complaints we see and can improve your overall health and wellbeing.
If you are unsure as to whether Chiropractic care is right for you and your family, please come in and see us for a free consultation.
Chiropractic for Pregnancy
Pregnancy is an exciting and positive experience for many women, however as your baby grows, the hollow in your back may become more pronounced, which can cause backache. During pregnancy, your ligaments in your body naturally become softer and stretch to prepare you for labour. This can put a strain on the joints of your lower back and pelvis.
Back pain in pregnancy is very common and affects almost three thirds of women at some stage of their pregnancy. Lower back pain and pelvic girdle pain are the most common complaints for women pre & post pregnancy.
Because pregnant mums are advised not to take over-the-counter drugs for pain relief and medication, they often turn to chiropractic treatment to help alleviate pain and discomfort experienced during pregnancy.
Chiropractic treatment during pregnancy is both safe and very gentle (especially in the first trimester). We use specific techniques to encourage realignment of your lower back and pelvis as well as increase the space that the baby has to move around in, hopefully encouraging your baby to settle in the ideal position.
We also treat a number of mums suffering from post-pregnancy related back pain, often as a result of breastfeeding, poor posture, weight gain and muscle strain (usually a result of carrying around a toddler).
In addition to Chiropractic treatments we also provide advice on lifestyle, improving posture, nutrition and gentle exercises, specific to the expectant mum.
Chiropractic for workers
Back pain is the number one cause of long term absence among employees in the UK, and is a common cause of short-term absence. It is estimated that up to 60% of people on long-term sick leave cite musculoskeletal problems as the reason. (Source: Department of work in Pensions, 2010).
Untreated back pain can lead to serve long-term chronic conditions; affecting the ability to work effectively; resulting in poor performance and may even reduce or prevent participation in activities outside of the workplace.
We treat a number of professionals and manual workers whose back and neck complaints are a direct result of poor posture, long-working hours, accidents, highly stressful & pressured working environments, heavy labour and a general lack of exercise.
We will work directly with your HR departments to develop an effective treatment program that will benefit your employees and support your productivity goals.
Your employees will have full access to our chiropractic treatments and expertise outside office hours– helping them to improve their general health and overall well-being.
Our Chiropractor services are covered by all major health-care insurers, including BUPA and AXA.
Chiropractic for sports injuries
Chiropractors have been involved in the treatment of sports people and sports-related injuries from the very creation of the profession. As a discipline that deals with functional disorders of the joints, it is eminently suited to being included as part of the medical back-up team of any sports club.
Milton Chiropractic Clinic is the selected Chiropractic Clinic for Cambridge United Football Club and has treated a number of professional footballers for sports-related injuries, musculoskeletal disorders and other conditions that directly affect their performance. These conditions often include broken metatarsals, foot & heel pain, lower back pain, injury to the shoulder and back and neck injuries.
In addition to professional footballers we also regularly treat cyclists, swimmers, walkers, golfers, amateur sports enthusiasts, snowboarders and skiers, for a range of sporting-related back, neck and foot pain.
Milton Chiropractic Clinic is not just concerned with the treatment of sports-related injuries but in how to prevent them in the first place and how to help optimise performance. It is possible that a person can have a mechanical dysfunction without being aware of any clinical symptoms. If that is the case then not only will they be prone to injury when applying that extra bit of effort but as they are not functioning correctly then they cannot perform to their maximum capability.
Chiropractic for seniors
Bone and joint disease are the most common cause of disability in older people and as a result, quality of life can be severely compromised. The onset of musculoskeletal disorders such as arthritis and osteoporosis increases significantly with old age and if left untreated can greatly reduce overall well-being and health.
Restoring better spinal function may help improve problems associated with the over 65’s age group including mobility, vitality, endurance, and appetite. Many patients report improvements with arthritic symptoms and other chronic ailments often associated with the ageing process. The adjusting technique used by our chiropractors will be modified for maximum comfort and results.
Additional exercise programmes can be specifically tailored to older individuals, with emphasis on a gentle range of motion and core stability exercises.
Your Chiropractic will carefully assess your condition and discuss any concerns you many have about your recovery, treatment plan or exercise programme.
