Best Exercise for the Buttocks: Piriformis Stretch

The piriformis muscle is located deep in the gluteal (buttock) area and is commonly affected with back pain. It often causes a deep, dull ache in the buttock area.

A tight piriformis muscle can actually cause sciatica. The muscle runs very closely to the sciatic nerve and when it becomes tight and inflamed, it can irritate the sciatic nerve.
